Those of us older folks who remember watching the masked rebel figure from the Zorro TV shows (and younger ones who remember the movies with Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones) might think it was a nod to that character, a heroic figure fighting for the powerless.

Then there's the way he "out-foxed" the authorities. Sounds like Epstein and Maxwell thought they were pretty clever as intelligence operatives.
And, inevitably, there's the locker-room talk about "foxes," as in comely young women. In this case, those young women were actually children, girls well under 18 (and at 18 we are all still children, Meghan Kelly), but you can bet that Donald and Jeffrey used that term quite often when referring to their young victims.
So, even the name is a sneer at the rest of us. Like everything else about these two men, ugh.
So I just finished reading the book Maxwell’s wife wrote after he died. It’s her autobiography. She was definitely in love with the guy, but she says that in the 1980’s he became nasty to live with. His public persona was still charming and influential, but at home he became hypercritical and verbally abusive. She also barely mentions Ghislaine even though she has quite a few passages about her other children.
Regarding his death she says that she doubts he committed suicide but leaves open the idea that he might have been murdered. She is critical of the quality of the autopsy that was done in Spain where he died. Despite his ill health, she did not believe he had a heart attack because he had been thoroughly examined by a doctor she trusted.
Here’s a couple of paragraphs I found interesting in the epilogue:
“By the mid-1980s, well on the way to fulfilling the first of his missions, Bob began actively to promote and carry through the remaining two. He became the largest private investor in Israel, and, more significant, he successfully influenced Mikhail Gorbachev's perception of that country, helping to convince him to allow Russian Jews to emigrate there, as he was also to help dissuade Russia from siding with the Arabs in the Gulf War. His crucial role in these matters demonstrated his talent for sophisticated diplomatic missions, and he would have been enormously gratified by the progress which has been made in bringing peace to certain parts of the Middle East over the last year.”
“Israel's former president Chaim Herzog told me recently that during his term of office, he gave a state dinner in honor of Gorbachev during the Russian leader's first visit to Israel a couple of years ago. During dinner. President Herzog asked his guest which of the many leaders he had met in the West had impressed him. Without any hesitation, Gorbachev answered that Robert Maxwell was one of the most impressive men he had ever met, despite all that had since been said and written about him. He added, ‘Your people owe a great deal to him.’ Gorbachev's change of attitude towards Israel was probably Bob's greatest diplomatic success.”
It may take years to suss out everything that’s really happened. I should say that’s really happening because still no one else has been held accountable. And pardoning Ghislaine would just be icing on the cake for the entire Epstein Class getting away with their shadow world empire.
If the wealthy and powerful get to keep their extraction model churning away, business as usual, indefinitely, then we’ll all collectively be to blame.

I can't help wondering whether during his time at MI6 Mr. Maxwell might have become acquainted with another fellow who worked there, name of David Cornwell. Better known to many of us these days as John Le Carré.

My mum worked at Pergamon press in Headington, Oxford briefly in the 80's. Big grand place (Headington Hall). He was known as Toad of Toad Hall ( think this was maybe Private Eye??). My folks had nothing good to say about him, being labour ( left) people. My dad's an academic, specialising in international relations, and Irish/ Scottish. I remember a NUJ (National union of journalists) pickett there for weeks/ months as he'd f*cked his workers over.

However, that said, one cannot truly understand Israel without an understanding of geopolitics. Geopolitics guides decisions heads of state make. For example it was France that helped arm Israel after it was created, and that includes building Dimona, its nuclear weapons facility. Why? because after WW2 (and France restoring its democracy), it saw Israel, as did the US, as a hedge against Russia, as well as being angry that Egypt sided with the Nazi's. France was also angry that it lost two of its colonies Syria and Lebanon, and saw Israel as a way to keep its influence in the region. Israel became another chess piece between Russia and the US.
I have seen a lot of railing against "Zionism," but you can't understand the enormous undertaking of this project without knowing how Great Britain played Arabs against Jews, made the situation worse, as well as the role of people like Lawrence Oliphant, the Christian Zionist.
Let's remember also that boat loads of Jewish immigrants fleeing Nazism, over 100,000, were turned away from most countries, the British attacking ships and some ships being sent back to Germany. The US had a quota as well.
The continual arming of Israel, year after year by the US, reinforced to the leaders of Israel that there was no hurry to make peace with its neighbors. And it certainly seems feasible that Epstein and Maxwell was a Mossad/CIA op that went bad. Mossad trying to undermine Clintons attempts to make peace.
