A federal court has imported the exact legal mechanism Italian fascists used in 1926 to criminalize their opponents. Americans are sleepwalking through it.
Didn't the guy who shot the officer supposedly fire in defense of someone the officer was going to shoot? And, he injured the officer and intentionally did not kill him (which would have been easy with an AR-15). This should be a defense for him, which I believe is legal in Texas.
The other convictions are pure insanity. Is there a GoFundMe for their legal defense? Is the ACLU involved?

A small comment taking issue with your almost optimistic statement: "Their grandchildren are now being sentenced to life in federal prison for being, the government says, antifascists."
In fact, given the names of the prosecutors and officials behind these sentences, and those of the sentences, it is fairly likely that the descendants of the antifascists sent to Europe in the 1940s are among those pronouncing the sentences rather than among those sentenced recently for antifascism... whose Latino names make one expect to have their ancestry South of the Mexican border... what about racism (one Korean-origin name, several Latinos... look at the Judges...) as one of the motivations of the sentences ?

I hope they appeal, this is outrageous! They want us to be afraid. Afraid to protest, afraid to speak out. This needs to be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court because that is the only way this will gain national attention. Do they have a legal fund to contribute to? We have First Amendment rights in this country and from your description, Texas walked right over them and a judge did too! Now shooting a police officer is a different category, but the others? They are using them as an example.
Trump has expressed particular admiration for Mussolini, and his stance and expression often imitate those of the Fascist leader. It's not surprising that he would adopt Mussolini's approach to eliminating dissent. A government that labels anti-fascists terrorists thereby admits that it is fascist. Trump knows that. He's telling the country what he intends for it, and no one is paying attention.
History is littered with deeds and judgements such as these. The Tower of London and the Bastille are well known witnesses as we know. Modernity has just put a different color lipstick on that pig. The evil conceived in men’s minds is unmatched in Nature which leads me to believe our creation was a cosmic mistake that will eventually be rectified one way or another.
Unfortunately, when that cosmic mistake is rectified, it won't be only our monstrous species that becomes extinct. We'll take much of the life on the planet with us -- whether via nuclear annihilation or runaway climate change that leaves few places habitable by multicellular life forms.
ICE funding going towards detention centers that can house tens of thousands aren't meant for undocumented immigrants. That would contradict the whole "deportation" narrative. Those centers will be used to detain "Antifa" and people who just speak out against the gov't., corporations, the Epstein class, etc. Trans people, leftists, POC, etc. Basically, anyone this fascist regime deems its enemies and decides to label as terrorists. With virtually everyone on some social media platform, Google harvesting info from our emails/search habits, Flock surveillance state cameras, etc., AI can designate potential "threats" in milliseconds, and the roundup can begin. It's something a lot of people think could never happen in the U.S. until it starts happening... and it already is... but people are in denial.
