Exactly. Just another handout for the wealthy. Destroy public education has always been the goal. Uneducated people are easier to control. Our entire system is set up to provide more gravy for the wealthy than the poor. It just gets camoflaged. Without critical thinking skills (from a decent education) you'll just never see it and keep on going down the drain. Wealth inequality is truly our biggest problem. We need a MASSIVE Populist movement to rise up

Brilliant piece, Alisa! I come from the state of Idaho, which is often used as a test case in a small population state, before some of the crazier ideas are rolled out in larger States. We have the Idaho FREEDOM Foundation, which helps to buy the legislators, provides draft legislation and tells them how to vote. Our attorney general is their mascot. Many schools across the state are falling apart physically, and teachers' salaries are among the lowest in the country, but property owners get special tax relief packages from the legislature. To make the disaster complete, a school "choice" voucher bill was just signed by the governor No need to say who gets the most benefits. Thank you for exposing this fraud.

Ach this enrages me. I don’t live anywhere near Texas - I’m in Canada - but the same pattern is emerging here too. Underfund and run it into the ground, then sell it off and profit. It’s absolutely disgusting. Thanks for your clear analysis, as always - and keep up the fight.

This is welfare for the Rich. We have tried to tell them. Now they believe us. If vouchers pass. I will not be shocked. Did you see videos of the Republicans telling the Texas Republicans in the House and Senate. That vouchers are not a Republican values. Public school should. This started since 1996, Public Education has gone downhill. They were more interested in making Abortion illegal. They have tunnel vision. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m a retired teacher. I saw it happen. I have been saying something since 2000!

It needs to be what it was in years past - send your child to private school, but pay your property taxes and expect no tax break help with tuition. I'd say that there should be more money allocated for underfunded school districts than the richer property tax based school districts instead of less. That doesn't even make sense. We should not be regressing in how undeserved communities are served!

What are you whining about now? You're "unapologetically Texan". You had a say in this, whether you want to admit it or not. So suck it up Buttercup.🤨😳
