Now THIS is a book.

Don't forget Chile, where a popular movement's electoral victory was subverted by imperialism and upended by a military coup. Please read https://www.abebooks.com/9780963352606/Today-Yesterday-Chilean-Journey-Polumbaum-0963352601/plp

I'm all for justified revolution but history shows the revolutionary eventually becomes the oppressor. And so the cycle continues. The question is how do we break this cycle?

I recall my ninth-grade history teacher telling us, regarding revolutions, that no one forces open a sturdy door; every revolution begins with one that is already rotting on its hinges.

Sounds like you've done much-needed dispassionate, intellectual work figuring out what we all need to know and assimilate about the nature of revolution. Gaining perspective is essential when one is mired in an unfamiliar reality. I look forward to every installment to come!

I think there will be a Revolution soon but it's going to be led by Mother Earth —in the form of Earthquake and Tsunami

Gaia must be sick of the horror we are creating

Your intro almost, not quite, but almost gives me hope that there is some chance this country can survive. We still have a lot of leaders coming up who believe in the Ameica they were taught they lived in and want to see that America again. Not the MAGA crowd. Those people want privilege they seem to think they lost. The people, like Buttigieg, AOC, and Sanders, along with many others like Mamdani. We had wealthy people who believed in the equal dream. Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and that whole crowd. The America I remember learning about in the fifties, we were not there yet but we all knew we were working towards that goal. Unfortunately that was when the Republican were taken over by the wealth. We had Operation Wetback because those immigrants were taking all the jobs at the same time we had the rise of the Civil Rights Movement. We had expansion of public funding so people with no resources could get higher education at the same time that mainstreaming and a few years later, school choice were getting started. Today feels like the end game. The wealthy have degraded our public education, convinced vast swaths of the public that government is the problem, and those same swaths blame the "other" for all their problems. Just rambling, I really look forward to this series.

Alisa I love your work. Feel free to tell me to F off. The voice in this piece (and I’ve noticed it a little bit in others) feels very chat or Claude. There are some telltale phrasing and framing. Just a reminder that your pure thoughts are the gold!

(A reminder for all of us. I only recognize the rhetorical framing devices and tone/voice bc I’ve put in some heavy time with the chats. And then tried unsuccessfully to train them out of the habits. They are pretty latent )

Thank you. Alisa, for writing about the important things we need to keep focused on despite the avalanche of BS from the current regime and its captured media.

Don't forget the Chinese Revolution of 1911. It's also important to remember that the French Revolution and its "Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen" has had an outsize impact on our present conception of human rights that were embedded into the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 (which no nation to date has been able to live up to fully).

Thank you Alisa. I hope you're safe from the loud, lewd, vicious traitors that attacked you for shining a light on the rats and cockroaches currently in power.
